MILFORD, CONNECTICUT

Milford is a very nice small city with a lot to offer. It has a wide variety of housing choices and many pleasant neighborhoods and apartment/condo complexes. The schools are very good, and there are plenty of family activities. Shopping is excellent since Milford is home to the region’s major shopping mall and features many stores and shops along Route 1.

There are beautiful beaches and parks, and there is easy access to New York via the Metro-North commuter rail. For singles, Milford may sometimes be a bit quiet, but it is close to New Haven, which has a vibrant scene—and of course, New York City is nearby as well.

Seventeen miles of Long Island Sound coastline funnel into our harbor, which winds its way to meet the Wepawaug River in the heart of town.

The sixth-oldest town in Connecticut, Milford’s over 50,000 residents are proud of a meticulously maintained town green—the second longest in New England.

Multiple memorials along the green honor those who served in past conflicts. A memorial bridge provides a stone passageway that commemorates the history of our ancestors.

Milford provides ample cultural, recreational, educational, and employment opportunities, making the city more than just a great place to visit.

Many high-quality arts and crafts shows, varied festivals, and events make Milford a destination for day-trippers.

Water recreation abounds with access from boat launches, the Milford Lisman Landing Marina, multiple city beaches, and Silver Sands State Park. The Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center at Milford Point offers views of the estuary and Long Island Sound and their inhabitants. The recently renovated and expanded Milford Hospital has been providing for the health care needs of the city for the past 80 years.

Every year on the third Saturday in August, Milford celebrates its annual Oyster Festival, which combines a traditional town fair with a culinary celebration of the town’s location on the historically shellfish-rich Long Island Sound. This festival takes place in and around the Milford Green, near the center of town, as well as in various locations throughout the downtown area, and features a wide variety of events including canoe and kayak races, musical performances, and classic car shows.
